As a child of a mother with a gift for literature and words, and a father with a talent for mechanics and the manual crafts it was perhaps inevitable to some degree, that I would end up with an interest in the Arts.
Specifically, in the early years this led me to drawing, drawing and drawing. As the skills and horizons broaden I progressed into my teenage years, when as a birthday present I got my first SLR camera and moved into Photography and subsequently Fine Art. These core interests remained and allowed me to develop further through school and areas of study including Art history and Architecture and ultimately into Art College where Fine Art and Photography remained and were developed further. After many long days and nights in four home darkrooms, many, many cameras and numerous digital post processing tools and decades later, the core interests are still with me and practiced everyday.
Consequently, behind every image lies the considerations, of composition, contour, light, shade, perspective, aesthetics, figuration, balance and tone, that many years of experience, education, day to day learning and yes a lot of luck have informed.
In Street photography there is perhaps more luck than in the other disciplines, as it takes considerable foresight to read the street and be exactly in the right place at exactly the right time, so luck does play a larger role here in pursuing the true spirit of the original exponents of the genre.
To that end I hope many of the viewers of this site find the images of interest in some small way.
